Looking ahead: Afrobeat in Saugerties and Grace Potter at the Bardavon. Go find something good. We'll bring the soundtrack.
Explore the Hudson Valley
A kaleidoscope hidden in a Catskills silo and an Italianate mansion with 200 acres to explore.
There Is a 60-Foot Kaleidoscope Hiding in the Catskills
The Catskills have plenty of eye-popping scenery, but this might be the only place where you step inside the scenery. Hidden in a converted grain silo at the Emerson Resort is the World's Largest Kaleidoscope—an immersive world of moving color, light and sound.
The giant mirrored installation earned Guinness recognition in 1997. Today's show, The Earth Laughs in Flowers, transforms native plants into a psychedelic visual experience. There's also a Kaleidostore for anyone tempted to take a smaller bit of optical magic home.
Why we're circling it: It's completely unexpected, gloriously photogenic and just strange enough to feel like a true Catskills secret.
Ages 12 and up $5; under 12 free · Holiday hours may vary.

A Grand Mansion, a Famous Inventor, and 200 Acres to Explore

Outside, follow five miles of trails through landscaped grounds and gardens overlooking the Hudson. Visiting on Friday or Halloween Saturday? Catch the final two days of Pumpkin Grove, a playful outdoor display of more than 35 pumpkin creations inspired by beloved children's books.
Why we're circling it: An afternoon that combines an extraordinary Hudson Valley home, a little history and plenty of room to wander.

This Weekend
Halloween in Woodstock, a Bearsville reunion and a pumpkin feast for rescued pigs.
Woodstock Does Halloween Its Own Way
Nobody does Halloween quite like Woodstock. Costumes of every imaginable kind spill into the heart of the hamlet for an old-fashioned community parade with the Rock Academy Showband and Drum Line bringing the soundtrack.
Come early for music, stay for the costume contest, and wander into participating village shops for trick-or-treating.
Why we're circling it: The town's famously creative spirit, all dressed up and out on the street.
Woodstock Village Green / center of the hamlet · Community event.

A Halloween Reunion for the Wetlands Faithful
The names alone may bring back a few late nights. God Street Wine reunites with Ominous Seapods at Bearsville on Halloween for Ghosts of Wetlands Past, a nod to the improvisational rock scene that found its home in New York's legendary Wetlands Preserve.
God Street Wine is also celebrating its new record, The Method, making this more than a nostalgia trip. Expect a room full of fans who know exactly why these bands belong on the same bill.
Why we're circling it: A real Radio Woodstock kind of night: musicianship, history, community and a good excuse to stay out past trick-or-treating.

The Cutest Halloween Tradition Might Involve Pigs
At Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, Halloween looks a little different: rescued pigs get their own pumpkin feast, and visitors can join a special guided tour to meet the animals who call the sanctuary home.
Costumes are encouraged, and Cheeky Eats will be on site selling baked goods. It's a wonderfully unexpected way to celebrate the season while supporting animal rescue.
Why we're circling it: Pumpkins, happy pigs, and a feel-good afternoon that's much more memorable than another haunted house.
2 Rescue Road, High Falls · Advance tickets recommended; capacity limited.

Plan Ahead
Afrobeat and psychedelic funk in Saugerties, followed by a powerhouse rock voice at the historic Bardavon.
A Little Afrobeat Magic Comes to Saugerties
Get ready to move. Guitarist and singer Kaleta, who performed with Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti and King Sunny Adé, brings his Brooklyn-based Super Yamba Band to The Local for a night of infectious West African rhythms, psychedelic funk and irresistible grooves.
Rooted in the sounds of Nigeria and driven by a fiercely funky rhythm section, the band makes music that feels both classic and completely alive. It's the kind of show that can turn an intimate listening room into a dance floor.
Why we're circling it: A musical journey from Lagos to Saugerties, led by an artist who has played alongside legends and knows how to get an audience moving.
The Local · 16 John Street, Saugerties
Ticketed concert · Advance purchase recommended.
