The String Cheese Incident
String Cheese Incident ends a seven-year wait for fresh recorded material with a new single, "Can't Wait Another Day." And there's more on the way, according to keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth.
"We are in the process of working on some material for a new album, but we just wanted to release this piece that was closest to being done just to get some hype and build some excitement for our summer shows," Hollingsworth, who wrote the song, tells Billboard.com. "It's a promotional tool, but we really like it and we wanted to get people excited for the summer and let them know we're working on new material. It's been awhile. We've been putting out live CDs for quite awhile now... But I think the whole band is ready to release new material, and we know our fans are waiting for it."
"Can't Wait Another Day" is available for free download at LiveCheese.com. SCI has also issued a video for the song incorporating footage from some of its 2011 performances. Billboard has the exclusive premiere of the song and video. Watch:
Hollingsworth said the song comes from "an Afro groove that had been flying around in my brain for awhile. I did kind of a home studio version of it and the band liked it so much that I started replacing what I had done with the guys in the band...and made it a String Cheese song. we did it kind of backwards and it came out really well."
Looking ahead, Hollingsworth says the band has "about five or six" other songs finished so far, most of which are drawn from concert jams or pieces the group has been performing live, including titles such as "Bluebird Sky," "Rosie" and Bollymunster." The group has been working with a couple of producers that Hollingsworth didn't want to name who have been "helping us get arrangements down and...find the gems from the last tour and get them into shape." He predicts the music will surface as a pair of EPs. "The first one will be mainly instrumental and more electronically based, with a couple of vocal tunes," Hollingsworth says. "The next thing will maybe be more bluegrass. It makes more sense to do it that way now rather than putting out a full-scale album."

"We've been doing about a month and a half of rehearsals," Hollingsworth says. "We're working up new cover ideas, song ideas, jam ideas, eye candy. We want every show to be an intimate, special experience that's not like any of the others."
