On Sunday, March 10, the Hudson Valley music community will come together at The Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY to present, We Shall Not Be Moved: an Evening of Spirituals to Benefit Frack Action. Presented by Radio Woodstock 100.1, the intention for the event is to build awareness about potentially harmful fracking activities facing local residents, while simultaneously raising funds for non-profit organization Frack Action who are spearheading an effort to ban hydraulic fracturing in New York State. The concert will feature over 20 local artists and musicians for a series of performances focused on the longstanding musical tradition of spirituals.
Woodstock resident and veteran artist manager Liz Penta along with Radio Woodstock 100.1 is producing We Shall Not Be Moved: an Evening of Spirituals to Benefit Frack Action.
In addition to musical performances, there will be a silent auction of local goods and services to help raise additional funds and further involve the community. A few of the businesses set to participate include Woodstock Yoga, River Rock Spa, Eric Tischler Acupuncture, Sorella Clothing, Cucina, Sunflower Natural Foods Market and Tivoli Sailing Company.
"I don't know a single person who wants New York opened up to hydraulic-fracturing. A benefit concert and silent auction seemed like the perfect opportunity to work with people on the local level. We have a wealth of talent here, and it didn't take much persuading to get folks on board," says Penta. "The goal of the event is to educate, enlighten, galvanize the community, and fund the folks and on the front line. And, of course, we'll have a good time doing it."
Julia Walsh, campaign director for Frack Action, adds: "Fracking is a devastating practice that has the potential to destroy the public's health, environment and economy. Our team has been working tirelessly over the past 2 1/2 years to grow the movement for a statewide ban. Through these efforts, fracking has still not been approved in New York. This is in large part due to the overwhelming action and participation from the unprecedented movement we have collectively built. We are at a critical point in the campaign where the Governor could make a decision any day. We're calling on our Hudson Valley friends and neighbors to come together during this critical time to tip the scales towards justice and a sustainable future. Frack Action is so honored to have allies in the artist community come out and support us in this way. Together we will ban fracking and embrace a renewable energy economy in New York."
